General information
After the election of the Central Government (election of the Prime Minister) many social projects are created for a period of 5 years. Unfortunately, many of them do not last. The reasons are: the lack of motivation from the administration, corruption, and the overpopulation of this country which makes it difficult to maintain these social programs.
Estimation :
According to some studies, we can see that:
- In 2003, in Rajasthan, the illiteracy rate is estimated at 74% for women and 50% as for men.
- In 2003, in India, the illiteracy rate is estimated at 64% for women and 39% as for men.
Rajasthan ranks 25th in illiteracy rate in the 28 Indian sub-continent states.
We can also note that the illiteracy rate is definitely higher among women than men. The families do not often give priority to girls over boys when it comes to going to school. In many villages, the girls are married very early (still teenagers). For the families, it is more important that girls learn housework than receive education.
The school is obligatory for all children, and even free for the poor families, but it should be noted that the application of this law is very limited. The reasons are: governmental classes are overloaded, the school is too far away for many children, lack of motivation from the parents and indifference from the teachers.
